If you would like to add live webcam search to your site Livelook has a couple great widgets. The first will search the Livelook database of thousands of live cams based on the location that a user types into the search box. The results will be displayed by location on a Google map.

The second is a widget that lets you set the location and zoom level to show all webcams near the location set in the widget code. In this example you can click to see all the cams in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The Telemark Systems Kat Kam is a leader in image quality for live cams. The high quality image is generated using a 2004 Olympus C-5060 Widezoom digital camera.
It is attached to a photo capture program written by Randall in C# .NET. The software/ hardware combination is used by several other sites listed on the katcam.ca site. There’s a nice archive but it would be really cool if the site could generate timelapse movies like one of their visitors put together. This cam has a 5 star rating on Livelook and with beautiful view of Burrard Bridge and Vancouver’s West Side it should stay that way.

The Pyramid Cam is a great site built around a live view of the Pyramids in Egypt. Using the high quality Stardot XL webcam the Pyramid cam has taken some captivating pictures over the last few years. I hope to see more websites built around live image content. Maybe the new seven wonders of the world? Easter Island is one place badly in need of a good webcam. Machu Picchu, anyone? The investment may still be too high for the average live video cam fan, but interesting content partnered with sponsors (tourism, real estate, etc) and online ads can make many more webcam sites profitable. This 4th of July holiday week finds us in Crested Butte, Colorado. CB in July is absolutely wonderful with great weather, wildflowers and lots of Colorado sun. Surprisingly for such a beautiful place the webcam views are a little lacking. The Crested Butte ski resort is the main economy here and they have some standard ski webcams.Please comment and let me know if there are other Crested Butte live cams that I’m missing. It would be great to see a live view from the town of Crested Butte with a panorama of the valley and surrounding mountains.Western State college in Gunnison has a good collection of live cams in the area. http://www.western.edu/webcam/
