Solstice Cams

Happy Solstice to everyone. The daylight map overlay on the Livelook map search highlights how short the days are in northern hemisphere. The short days make it a challenge to find webcams in daylight but with the map search and daylight overlay you can always find cams where it’s light.

Los Angeles – Watch the Water

The Los Angeles County Coastal Monitoring Network (watchthewater.org) is a network of beach webcams designed for public safety but with the added benefit of providing the public some fantastic and exclusive views of LA county beaches. According to the site, “the County of Los Angeles Fire Department, Lifeguard Division, in partnership with the County of Los Angeles Department of Beaches and Harbors and the University of Southern California Sea Grant Program has created a network of web cameras weather stations and water thermometers to aid in staffing beaches, tracking rescue activity, creating public education materials, and collecting environmental data for use in pursuing our common goals of protecting and educating the public, safeguarding property and preserving the environment. ”
The big benefit for webcam fans are some fabulous views from right on the beach. Twenty eight sites from Malibu, Manhattan Beach, Santa Monica, Venice Beach all the way out to Catalina Island are captured in high quality 360 degree panoramic views. I’m sure these views are a great help for the lifeguards but they’re also a terrific resource for webcam fans. Some beautiful sunset scenes from today – makes me think of “California Dreamin” on such a winters day.
